The Proxima Controller is an application that allows you to use the mouse and computer keyboard to play external MIDI devices such as synthesizers and tone generators. It is also possible to play internal devices if they are designed to respond to MIDI messages (for example, the Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth). This application makes no sounds of its own and instead relies on the MIDI devices it is controlling to produce sound. It supports bank and patch changes, transmits on MIDI channels 1-16, includes pitch and modulation sliders, and has five octaves of control.

Simply start two copies of BitPolice, and place one before the plugin you're interested in, and one after. Then just compare the results, and the bit's don't lie. In order to use BitPolice, your application must support DirectX Audio Plugins, and must also support realtime processing (such as Paris or WaveLab). If your application forces you to render the output from DirectX plugins, you're out of luck and should complain to the people who wrote it, because there's nothing I can do to help you out.

You can adjust the velocity of EACH KEY seperately using an editable curve that ensures that zero velocity remains zero and maximum velocity remains 127 (as described in the MIDI standard) resulting in natural sounding velocity levels. To imitate the silence when a key is hit very gently, I added a cut-off velocity. To avoid the extreme loudness when playing a midi-file through-out the piano, I also created a maximum velocity slider. You can also monitor the notes directly on the on-screen pianobar together with the velocity used.

So what exactly does AnalogX Bound do? Well, it simply clamps any audio to within a user-specified range... What this eliminates is one of the more common errors a plugin makes with high-volume samples - wrapping. This means the other plugin would take something like a 32bit sample 1.1, and instead of clamping it to 1.0, it instead wraps it to -0.9, which is very bad. Of course, Bound requires an application that supports DirectX Audio plugins (like the Paris or WaveLab), and works with primarily realtime applications, although it might work with some non-realtime as well. Bound supports mono or stereo sound streams, as well as 16bit and 32bit data types, although it really is geared for 32bit audio.
