Universal Extractor is a program do to exactly what it says: extract files from any type of archive, whether it's a simple zip file, an installation program, or even a Windows Installer (.msi) package. I should stress that this application is not intended to be a general purpose archiving program. It will never replace WinRAR, 7-Zip, etc. What it will do is allow you to extract files from virtually any type of archive, regardless of source, compression method, etc. The original motivation behind this project was that I wanted an easy, convenient way to extract files from installation packages, such as Inno Setup or Windows Installer packages, without pulling up a command line every time. The WinSpy index.dat viewer lets you read the contents of your index.dat files (it's free and a small download). If you are not familiar with these files, don't be surprised - they are hidden on your computer. Windows uses index.dat files to organise data on your system. They reside in the Cookies, History and Internet Explorer's cache folders. This presents two problems: Index.dat files can grow quite large and as they increase in size, they tend to be bogged down with unneeded data - making them less efficient. Secondly, snoops can recover the index.dat file and read details such as your History, even though the items may have already been 'deleted' from the History folder.
