360desktop  by 360desktop Pty. Ltd.
Desktop → Desktop Management → Virtual Desktops

360desktop transforms your standard Windows desktop into a 360-degree panoramic workspace, giving you many times more desktop space. 360desktop also lets users make desktop widgets from favorite pieces of the Web and create and share 360-degree interactive wallpaper. 360desktop makes your desktop a more functional place with a 360-degree panoramic view....

This one is a lot of fun but I have several practical uses for it as well. I do wish it would work with the resolution I had. I prefer the smaller icons and folder sizes.

I was initially fairly impressed with this program; I like its scrolling interface much better than the independent-window method used by other desktop expanders.

However, I'm a little concerned about the poor responsiveness of the support team. The current beta version has a variety of performance problems on certain machines, and people have been posting a variety of questions and issues, but there are no responses from the developers for a week or more at a time (this is true for the feedback forms, bug-report pages, and the forums [which have now been taken offline]). I'm very concerned that this is going to be another product that drifts along partially-completed for months, then will just get abandoned. I hope I'm wrong.

Many people are reporting severe problems with scrolling performance, even with scrolling speed set to maximum. I had no problems at work, with my Athlon64 and a *very* low-end Nvidia card. Yet at home, with a 3Ghz P4 and a high-end Nvidia card (7800 GS), it was so slow and jerky that it was unusable.

Again, my issue is not with the jerkyness itself (I've used beta software before), I'm more concerned that the developers are not even attempting to respond to questions about the issue.

So, User Beware.

Nice review derelict ;-)

I read this in one of the reviews linked to on their website:
Content publishers and advertisers should also take note -- the platform allows brand owners to create and deliver content dynamically to their target audiences, through the desktop instead of a browser or Web page. For example, a movie studio could create a "360" that includes images from the movie, but also animated interactive scenes, movie trailers that can also be launched at specific times through the campaign.

I'd guess that's how they hope to make money from this app BUT, if it doesn't catch on, either with users or advertisers, guess what!!!! Could be some of the reason behind the support delay. Another scenario is they're hoping for one of the "big boys" to buy them out ;-)
