Free Download Manager by FreeDownloadManager.org Internet → Download Managers
FDM is a full-featured download accelerator and manager that allows users to easily download a list of files and entire Web sites from any remote server via HTTP, HTTPS, and FTP. It offers users a
variety of options to control and schedule downloads, as well as the ability to split individual downloads into several sections in order to increase download speed. FDM is also capable of
downloading files from several mirrors, improving overall download efficiency....

That's odd!
We listed version 1.5 of this program 18 months ago. It is now up to version 2.0 over 100 of our users have liked it enough to come back to vote for it. It also has excellent reviews on Download.com
I did see one review that said it does eventually ask for a link back if the user has a website which we think is perfectly acceptable.
FreeDownloadManager.org is also a software listing site. It has 100 download manager listings & not all are free. ALSO they run Google text ads which won't be freeware. So... Is it possible that you clicked on an ad by accident & downloaded a different program?

Hi,
So far I mentioned Mozilla Firefox about four times:) but anyway I do cause I have to.
If you have that browser which I do and find it really fast, you don't need any download manager...
No matter how many files you are going to download, a popup opens and saves all files to your desktop or anywhere else. You can download multiple files at once too and store them in the browser to install them later on.
This is not an extension, just a feature of the browser. Cool!

I use Firefox, and I still need a download manager. The larger the download, the more I need a download manager. Many times on a large download (50-500 MB), the server speed starts at 300 kbps, and by the time I get 3/4 through, the speed has dropped to 10 or 15kbps, or stops altogether. This download manager keeps creating a new, faster connection, without starting at the beginning, and allows me to download a 500 MB download.
I have been using Free Download Manager for a couple of months, and like it a lot. However, after reading:
"Note: early versions were bundled with spyware, user reports say it is now clean." in the description, I was a little concerned. I did a google search for 'Free Download Manager spyware', and it did not bring up reports of spyware in Free Download Manager. I will keep using FDM unless I start reading bad things about it.
For downloads of 30 MB or less, I just use Firefox.

35 I've never had a problem with Firefox although I don't often download really big files. It had no problem with a 146 M file a couple of days ago & there was not more than 10K variation in speed over the whole download.
However, I have seen download speeds degrade as you describe when we had a satellite ISP. It used to happen on EVERY download over 2 or 3 Mb, if I paused the download it resumed at full speed but then degraded again. For me the problem was my ISP not Firefox, it can also be the download server, using a download manager is definitely the way to fix the problem.
We have a download manager add-on for Firefox listed, it has very good reviews on the Mozilla website. It's called DownThemAll, here's the website link.

The best chance you have of getting an answer to your question is to post it on the author's own forum.

Great download manager! I use it regularly. Latest one supports torrent downloading, though I rarely use this feature. I used FDM with dial-up and now high-speed cable connection; it does far better with the latter.
