Comodo Registry Cleaner  by Comodo Group
System Utilities → System Tools → Registry

Comodo Registry Cleaner improves the health of your computer and makes it run faster by conducting a deep scan of the Windows registry to identify, remove, repair and optimize unnecessary or corrupt registry entries. Whenever you perform a task such as installing or removing a program or modifying a file on your computer, Windows creates an entry in the Windows Registry to reflect this change. Even those entries relating to programs you uninstalled years ago will remain until they are removed....

Registry cleaners are seldom necessary, and often cause more harm than good. Most PC experts say that people should not use them. If you're considering using this one, or any, you should read this short discussion:

Actually, that thread specifically recommends against using the MS onecare registry cleaner.

AND it goes on to say that if you are going to use a registry cleaner, make sure it has back-up options.

The basic tenet of that website is to adhere to Micro$oft's "advice" (recommending against MS onecare registry cleaner is a rare deviation) .
Microsoft has been kind enough to strengthen my résumé by gifting me with its annual Most Valuable Professional award every year since 1999. — Jim Eshelman

I absolutely agree with their comments on backing up the registry before doing *anything* (apparently Micro$loppy didn't think it was necessary when they created their cleaner. What a surprise, not!) but the majority of the posts are now over a year old, the reference to Fred Langa is an article he wrote in 2005 & the most recent post on the last page also references a 2005 editorial.

Things do change, I don't believe it's good to automatically accept what was said years ago as still holding true now. There are times when cleaning the registry is *essential*, it's one of the first steps in malware removal because leaving malware/spyware entries in there is simply guaranteed to reinfest your system.

This topic is for Comodo's latest freeware, it might not be the best thing since sliced bread but it will be useful to *somebody* ;-)

Clear, simple to use and given that you are always trying to be sold a registry cleaner somewhere or other, this one does the same job (I ran a free scan for a paid cleaner then ran this and it removed the peviously identified issues). Whats not to like.
